New Delhi : Abhishek Tripathi. Senior advocate Rajeev Bansal, signatory to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) appointed by the Delhi High Court, has refused to pay the Union Ombudsman Deepak Verma and advocates Gautam Dutta and Ankur Chawla, citing the rules. However, earlier members of the DDCA have questioned the payment being made to the lawyers.
Rajiv has written in an email sent to the Lokpal, both lawyers and directors, that it is very painful that I am writing this to all of you. By order of the Delhi High Court on 13 March this year, I was entrusted with the duty of approving payments made by DDCA. The Delhi High Court order is clear. The order clearly sets out the payments that can be approved at this level. Again I was pressured to approve some payments but I have politely declined it. I have been asked to approve the payments of senior advocates on time and again, for whom I have great respect.
Now, I have been sent the challans of Lokpal Deepak Verma. He is a retired Supreme Court judge and I regard him with high regard. It has really pained me that when I indicated in my oral conversation that it may not be possible to issue the payment of Lokpal, I have been repeatedly asked to do so and I refused to do so. But still I am asked to say it in writing. I do not have a choice. With a heavy heart, I am writing that as per the High Court order dated March 13, the payments made to the Lokpal, Advocate Gautam Dutta, Ankur Chawla cannot be released. If it is felt that my interpretation of the March 13 order of the High Court is not correct, then you can resort to your legal remedies.
