Lahore। Describing the three-year ban on Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal as a very harsh ban on corruption, his elder brother and team player Kamran Akmal has said that he should challenge the verdict. Akmal was convicted on Monday by Retirement Judge Fazle Miran Chauhan, Chairman of the Discipline Committee, for violation of two sections of the Anti-Corruption Code of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and banned him from playing in all three formats of cricket for three years.
Significantly, during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the PCB had accused Omar of spot-fixing and the board referred the matter to the disciplinary committee. Umar, 29, was temporarily suspended on February 20. Umar last played in the T20 series against Sri Lanka in October last year.
Kamran said, I am surprised by the harsh punishment Omar has received. The three-year ban is quite stringent. They should challenge this decision. Kamran objected to the decision, citing the example of Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Nawaz. He said that Umar should challenge this decision at all appropriate forums.
